I think that to be fair, I should include trends that have been predicted over time but have failed to materialize. Remember Y2K? Well, the "End of the World" advocates are at it again and predict that 21 May 2011 will be the end...Again! And it may be coincidental but I planned to win the lottery on 22 May.
This has been going on for decades and yet many Christians believe in these possibilities. The interesting fact is that after the date has come and gone, these same groups have books and pamphlets for sale for the next time. I really do believe at times in the theory of conspiracy and the free market. Despite the dire warnings and failed predictions, these purveyors of fancy never lose credibility. It seems that logic should have some role in the acceptance of an idea but perhaps it is just wistful thinking on my part. The logic I mean. Just to be safe, I think that I will pack a suitcase!
