I have planted honeysuckle and Salvia for them to draw fresh nectar, and use the feeder with the non-dyed clear sugar solution. But, they seem to forage normally and use the feeder as a supplement, and not as their only source of food. It is a real joy to see them arrive as it means warm weather, but when they leave, it reminds me that winter is not far behind. There is an interesting link here for more.
